Developer David Azrieli brought the modern shopping mall to Israel, finished school at 75, and raised a ruckus in the 1970s when he levelled a landmark mansion in downtown Montreal to put up an office tower. Now he is the new namesake of Carleton University's School of Architecture, thanks to a $5.5-million gift, his second to the institution. Mr. Azrieli, who at 85 still plays an active role in planning and designing projects, got his first brush with the Ottawa school when he sat in on lectures while his firm, Montreal-based Canpro Investments Ltd., was working on a shopping centre in nearby Gatineau, Que. Soon after, the billionaire businessman enrolled in the school's master's program, graduating with a degree at the age of 75.
