RAIC announces recipients of 2007 Awards of Excellence

The Royal Architectural Institute of Canada is pleased to announce the recipients of the 2007 RAIC Awards of Excellence. The Royal Architectural Institute of Canada is a voluntary national association established in 1907 as the voice for architecture and its practice in Canada. Representing almost 3,700 architects, the RAIC provides the national framework for the development and recognition of architectural excellence.

    New this year is the Green Building award administered in partnership with the Canada Green Building Council and the first recipient of this award is for the Operations Centre: Gulf Islands National Park Reserve by Larry McFarland Architects Ltd.

    The Awards of Excellence are bestowed every two years recognizing the greatest achievement in the category identified. The winners are chosen by a series of juries corresponding to the various categories offered. This year’s juries were comprised of:

    • AInnovation in Architecture: Dan Hanganu, FRAIC; Guy Gosselin, P.Eng.; Richard Williams, MRAIC

    • AArchitectural Firm: Andy Lynch, FRAIC; Norm Hotson, FRAIC; Marianne McKenna, FRAIC
    • AGreen Building: Neil Munro, FRAIC; Daniel Pearl; Guy Favreau, MIRAC

    The RAIC Board of Directors appoints an Awards committee who then in turn appoints a jury for each award and anyone except the Awards committee and jury members are eligible to submit for an award. Recipients will be recognized during the OAA/RAIC Conference and Festival of Architecture Presidents’ Gala beginning at 6:30 p.m. Friday, May 11, 2007 at the Sheraton Centre in Toronto.
