Writers ill-informed about architecture

The StarPhoenix

As Saskatchewan students progress through the educational system they don't receive classes in the theory of architectural design. Only those that leave the province are able to attend post-secondary training in architecture, landscape architecture and interior design. My conclusion is that more than 99 per cent of our population are generally ignorant in the subject of design. People who comment on architectural matters locally, usually do so from the building's external and historical aspects. I have never seen a report on the acceptability of these structures by the building users. It would be interesting to compare, for example, the satisfaction of students and faculty who use the Agriculture Building at the University of Saskatchewan -- a contemporary design -- with those who use the Health Science Building (collegiate gothic design).
