What's new is now old when it comes to Victoria's heritage buildings. The city has taken the first of many steps to saving some of the best architectural examples of buildings constructed in the postwar period from 1945-1975 that are considered part of the modern movement. While the buildings, such as the Odeon Theatre on Yates Street, may not seem historical to some people right now, the city wants to flag them as important before it's too late. According to city heritage planner Steve Barber, the buildings are "milestones of architectural development" in the city, but some already "could be threatened by demolition." "We've been so enamoured with our Victorian and Edwardian heritage ... now we need to broaden our horizon," he said.
