Carleton University is going ahead with plans for a new flagship building linked to the proposed light-rail system despite delays to the city's commuter-train deal. The project will be overseen by Raymond Moriyama, the Toronto-based architect whose work includes the Ontario Science Centre and the Canadian War Museum. The war museum has claimed numerous national and international awards for design. The building garnered the 2006 Ontario Association of Architects award for architectural excellence, the 2006 LEAF Award for "best public building" and was runner-up for the inaugural Lubetkin Prize, the Royal Institute of British Architects award for international design. The Vancouver-born Mr. Moriyama spent time in a Canadian Japanese internment camp during the Second World War. He went on to earn a bachelor of architecture from the University of Toronto and masters of architecture from McGill University before establishing his firm in 1958.
