Erickson's vision of site starting to come alive

Regina Leader-Post

World-famous Canadian architect Arthur Erickson's homage to Canada's world-famous Mounties -- the RCMP Heritage Centre -- is slowly taking shape on the western edge of the city. "Erickson's design draws upon the Prairie landscape for inspiration," says the press release announcing the unveiling of the design of the $40-million RCMP Heritage Centre in November 2005. Even in the midst of construction, that inspiration is readily apparent when one first sees the building located on a 12-acre site near the Dewdney Avenue entrance to the RCMP Training Academy. Rising out of the flat Prairie landscape, a row of tall concrete columns -- ranging from 35 to 65 feet (11 to 20 metres) in height -- support the roof over the 18,000-square-foot (1,670-square-metre) exhibit hall.
