Annapolis Royal wins award for heritage conservation

CBC

The Nova Scotia town of Annapolis Royal, which was established by Samuel de Champlain and Pierre Dugua in 1605, has won the Prince of Wales Prize for heritage conservation. The old fort and historical district have earned Annapolis Royal a heritage award. (Canadian Press) The prize from the Heritage Canada Foundation honours a municipal government that has shown a commitment to preserving its heritage. Annapolis Royal in the Annapolis Valley was the capital of the colony of Nova Scotia from 1710 until the founding of Halifax in 1749. Its heritage buildings include architecture from both the French and British traditions, including the original earth embankments of Fort Anne, which was Canada's first heritage site.
