War museum, U of T centre up for prize

Toronto Star

Interior of Canadian War Museum

Two Canadian buildings, the Canadian War Museum and the Terrence Donnelly Centre for Biomolecular and Cellular Research, have been nominated for the first ever Lubetkin Prize. Awarded by the Royal Institute for British Architects, the new prize will be handed out annually for work done by RIBA members around the globe. The War Museum, which opened last year, was designed by Toronto architect, Ray Moriyama, in conjunction with Griffiths Rankin Cook of Ottawa. This remarkable structure, built of concrete with a long sloping green roof, is one of the most expressive and moving buildings constructed in Canada in the 21st century.
