It's true that many residents live in the city without inhabiting it, but the urbanities are making their presence felt — and not a moment too soon. The beauty of this year's seventh annual line-up of Doors Open locations is that it moves beyond the standard heritage properties to include a number of new projects that have already had an impact on the city. This burgeoning interest in contemporary architecture signals not just the health of the event, but also of Toronto. Were Doors Open to lapse into an exercise in mere architectural nostalgia, it would not have become the force it has.
