U of T buildings win architectural awards

University of Toronto News

The University of Toronto’s new buildings continue to be recognized locally and nationally for design excellence. In May both the Ontario Association of Architects (OAA) and the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada (RAIC) announced the winners of their annual juried competitions, and U of T’s research, teaching and residence facilities continue to shine. Erindale Hall, the Phase VII residence at the University of Toronto at Mississauga by Baird Sampson Neuert Architects of Toronto was one of only two Ontario projects selected by the international jury of the RAIC, which together with the Canada Council for the Arts, administers the Governor General’s Medals in Architecture to recognize outstanding achievement in recently built projects by Canadian architects. The 200-bed residence has previously been recognized by the City of Mississauga Urban Design Awards and the OAA Awards of Excellence for the environmental sensitivity of its siting. The Governor General’s Medals will be presented Sept. 20 in Montreal.
