Capital-A architect

Former Winnipeg architect Ron Keenberg has no shortage of controversial opinions about his hometown: The Canadian Museum for Human Rights belongs in Toronto, not Winnipeg. The MTS Centre will be converted into a gambling casino within a decade or two. The downtown Hudson's Bay store should be handed over to the University of Winnipeg to establish professional faculties of medicine, law, dentistry, architecture and journalism. The top floors could accommodate residences for hundreds, if not thousands, of ambitious and affluent students. Building a new airport terminal, instead of renovating the one we have, is a waste of money. The area north of the Alexander Bridge should be bull-dozed and given over to trees and lakes, a giant Central Park. Public housing for the displaced poor should be established in every city neighbourhood, but no more than three families on any block and never with two such dwellings side by side.
