New conceptual designs for library/art gallery project very civic-minded

Daily Herald Tribune

Creating a real civic stature is the backbone for a conceptual redesign of the new library/art gallery. Heather Cameron, architect for Calgary-based Kasian Architecture Interior Design and Planning Ltd., said it would have been disrespectful to the project if the city's largest cultural centre did not look like it was a true civic centre. With public buildings like City Hall, the courthouse, the provincial buildings, and the existing Prairie Art Gallery, it was already a city gathering area but the new plans would try to draw them all together. "We would like to begin this kind of urban dialogue in connecting all of these spaces together but at the same time make a public space that would draw and attract people to come to the centre of the city, not only for the gallery and the library but to experience the space," said Cameron.
