Architecture captured on canvas

Richmond News

Renowned architect Arthur Erickson may have designed some of this city's most elegant structures, but artist Misa Nikolic is making sure they last forever. The painter has put on canvas some of Western Canada's most interesting and unique buildings. Nikolic was inspired by the 1930s German critic Walter Benjamin, who wrote essays and thus accumulated an impressive archive of material related to the shopping arcades and buildings dotting the Parisian city landscape. "This city stood for him as the epitome of modernity, in its urban plan, its mass produced consumer goods, but most especially in its architecture,' says the 32-year-old painter. "I am interested in this relationship between architecture and history."
