Prominent female architect finds 'everything interesting'

Ottawa Citizen

Merrill Elam, one of the most prominent female architects in North America, will give a free public lecture today at 6 p.m at the National Gallery of Canada. The Atlanta architect will talk about buildings that are shaped by context, as opposed to expressing a signature style. Her firm's award-winning work includes museums, libraries and houses. "Stylistically our work is not 'branded,'" says Ms. Elam, speaking with a Southern drawl. "We believe every project has enough within its own situation, its own milieu, to produce a particular architecture."
