For landmark under siege, a prize plan
Toronto's Fort York has spent much of the past century defending itself against the encroachments of the city. First, factories, warehouses and railways grew up around it; nowadays, high-rise towers and other housing projects are being built close by. But this time, the 1816 fortification holds something of a place of honour as planners work to revitalize an adjacent dusty tract of land between Bathurst Street and Strachan Avenue.
