There's value in a good number

The Globe and Mail

I've been thinking a lot about house numbers lately. Weird, yes, but that's the curse of being "The Architourist." Every home -- whether a mansion or tarpaper shack -- needs them, otherwise letter carriers would "go postal" and people would never make it to dinner parties. House numbers can occupy an area of three inches or three feet on a home's exterior; they can be in juxtaposition to the architectural style or complementary; sometimes, they're even an outlet for creative expression.
