Mississauga's little-known treasure

The Globe and Mail

Toronto's High Park, Vancouver's Stanley Park, Frederick Law Olmsted's Parc du Mont-Royal, Glenmore Park in Calgary -- great Canadian cities have great parks. Think of Mississauga, and it's likely expressways, Pearson International Airport and too much 1970s concrete sprawl will come to mind. In future, though, it might be the new Riverwood Park, formerly known as Mississauga Garden Park, located a few blocks west of Mississauga City Hall on Burnhamthorpe Road West. At 61 hectares, Riverwood Park is large (although less than half the size of High Park) and right smack dab in the geographical heart of the city, yet it's little known outside of Mississauga's borders and, perhaps, even by city residents themselves.
