The tower is back, better if not bigger than ever. Many observers have written off the tall building as architecturally moribund, urbanistically damaging and socially undesirable, but there's life still in them thar towers. The good citizens of Toronto have made it clear again and again that they don't appreciate towers, but now there's reason to hope they might change their minds. A trio of new towers under construction in Toronto offer a persuasive case that tall buildings can be exciting, even exhilarating and, dare we say it, beautiful. Height does make right, if only on occasion. Though these three buildings won't be the tallest ever seen in this city, all are brilliant examples of how the tower has been reinvigorated, almost reinvented, in the 21st century.
