The first new building of a revitalized Regent Park will be a modernist glass tower specifically designed not to look like social housing. The design by architectsAlliance, which would not look out of place on a posh waterfront condo strip, beat out three competitors yesterday to begin redevelopment of the downtown neighbourhood. Wrecking balls should swing by late fall and construction of the airy building could begin shortly after. Peter Clewes, a partner with the winning firm, said last night that he hopes the design will act as a motivating force throughout the rest of the neighbourhood.
