Urban park to take root on top of parking garage

Toronto Star

New condo developments can be more than just the buildings; at times they're also about creating parks and public spaces for the enjoyment of residents and visitors — with some parks in unexpected places. Late this summer, a new park called Town Hall Square will open in Yorkville, a few blocks from the intersection of Yonge and Bloor Sts. Designed by landscape architect Janet Rosenberg, the park will combine trees, rows of evergreen hedges, ground plants, pathways and sitting areas on a 0.25-hectare site. "The thing that's so interesting is it's all on top of an underground parking garage. It shows you how smart you can be with downtown, very urban sites," says Rosenberg. Town Hall Square will be a contemporary urban park.
