A long-distance conversation in early February cemented a takeover proposal that will transform Stantec Inc. and push the Edmonton-based architecture and engineering firm a long way toward its ambitious goal of becoming a top-10 global player in its sector. "That magic phone call happened and they said yes," recounted Tony Franceschini, president and chief executive officer of Stantec, which announced in April month that it is buying Keith Cos. Inc. for $180-million (U.S.).
