This time, let's get it right at Regent Park

The Globe and Mail

The $1-billion transformation of Toronto's Regent Park from a decaying enclave of urban poverty into a mixed-income community is only one of several huge residential projects that, over the next few years, will change the look of our downtown for centuries to come. There is Concord Adex's 20-tower CityPlace development, the Fort York neighbourhood scheme, and the vast waterfront initiative. But these developments are not merely big. They are also newsworthy. Next week, the city-owned Toronto Community Housing Corp. (TCHC), which is running the Regent Park redevelopment, will submit its design guidelines for approval by city council. Later this month, TCHC will launch an architectural competition for the first new building on the 70-acre site, a 22-storey residential tower slated to go up on the corner of Dundas Street East and Sackville Street.
