Waterfront design panel aims not to repeat past

The Globe and Mail

Inspiring architecture, eco-friendly buildings and leading-edge ideas must be the new gold standard for Toronto's waterfront, dogged by a history of design failure. That was the challenge issued yesterday by the new design watchdog appointed by the Toronto Waterfront Revitalization Corp., which will seek city approval for two new east-end waterfront neighbourhoods this year. "The intent is to build better buildings in the city because everybody wants them," said award-winning Toronto architect Bruce Kuwabara, appointed yesterday to head a new waterfront design review panel.
