Beaux Arts house blend

The Globe and Mail

A key stumbling block to a controversial condominium project was removed this month when the Toronto Preservation Board approved a design that would preserve parts of the studio belonging to the architect behind some of the city's landmarks. The façade and some interior features of the historic John M. Lyle office will be turned into a courtyard café on the ground floor of a high-rise proposed for Bloor Street West near Bedford Road. The twist is that the café will double as an informal museum to Mr. Lyle, the renowned Toronto architect who built Union Station, the Royal Alexandra Theatre and Runnymede Library.
