Winnipeg's new airport will be unique in the world and complement its surroundings, say designers of the sweeping, curved structure unveiled at a public forum last night. Architects say the building borrows heavily from the land and skyline after they were inspired by Manitoba's plains, forests, farmland and endless sky. "What is really engaging about the landscape is primarily this extraordinary, endless horizon," said Fred Clarke, principal architect with Cesar Pelli and Associates of New Haven, Conn. "Regardless of weather, you have a great deal of sun, so there's always this sense that there is this great blue dome over the area."
