While much of downtown Toronto is in the grip of the biggest residential building boom in a generation, the strip of harbour land between the Redpath Sugar facility at the foot of Jarvis Street and the mouth of the Don River remains forlorn. Nobody lives there. Its former social bounce as a Great Lakes port vanished long ago. Over the past half-century, the district has subsided into decay only a stone's throw from the towers and vitality of downtown. This could all change dramatically if the exciting new plans for the inner harbour unveiled last week by Toronto Waterfront Revitalization Corp. (TWRC) come to fruition.
