Governor-General Adrienne Clarkson has announced 74 appointments to the Order of Canada. Included are two companions, 17 officers, 54 members and one honorary companion. They will receive their insignia at a later ceremony. The Order of Canada was established in 1967 to recognize outstanding achievement and service in various fields. Three levels of membership -- companion, officer and member -- honour people whose accomplishments vary in degree and scope. The two companions are film director Denys Arcand of Montreal and architect Moshe Safdie of Somerville, Mass., and Montreal.
