International bridge designers invited to participate in design competition for the new Peace Bridge

Canadian Architect

The Buffalo and Fort Erie Public Bridge Authority (Peace Bridge Authority) is the sponsor of a bi-national environmental process to increase capacity between Buffalo, New York and Fort Erie, Ontario. It announced that it will invite bridge designers and architects from around the world to participate in an international bridge design competition to select the final bridge type and complete the final bridge design and tender documents for a new international bridge crossing the 620-metre-wide Niagara River at the Peace Bridge. The Peace Bridge Authority commenced the bi-national Environmental Impact Statement/Environmental Screening Report (DEIS/ESR) process in January 2001. The full project includes construction of a new bridge (subject of the design competition), new US plaza and connecting roadways.
