Talkin' terrazzo tells of early Toronto retailers

The Globe and Mail

When people study a building, they tend to look up, waaaay up. A good architourist knows that looking down you sometimes discover things that can speak volumes, too. The language may be one of strange geometric shapes -- the zigzags, ziggurats and half-circles of the art deco age -- or something more economical, like a quick numeric reaffirmation of a building's address. But if you're lucky, it'll be plain ol' English.
