Toronto has dusted off 15-year-old plans to redevelop the underused north building of the St. Lawrence Market complex at Front and Jarvis Sts. Few admire the squat, concrete box, which clashes with the historic St. Lawrence Market south building and the St. Lawrence Hall to the north on King St. E. Built in 1968, the north market building is used only on weekends, for a farmers' market and antique sales. "This building at the moment is a pathetic bunker," Councillor Pam McConnell told council's administration committee yesterday. The committee voted to endorse redevelopment parameters, which would see the one-storey building replaced by a four-storey structure similar in design to the historic architecture that surrounds it, plus underground parking.
