City planners give nod to Gehry's AGO vision

The Globe and Mail

The city's planning department has endorsed a $195-million renovation and expansion of the Art Gallery of Ontario and is recommending that city council approve planning and zoning amendments to make the project happen. The endorsement is contained in a 31-page report to the Toronto and East York Community Council, chaired by Councillor Kyle Rae. It will consider the report at its next regular public meeting Tuesday morning. The department's approval was given almost nine months after Toronto-born superstar architect Frank Gehry, now based in Santa Monica, Calif., unveiled his much-anticipated redesign for the AGO.
