Portage and Main makeover plan tossed

Winnipeg's new mayor has shut down an ambitious plan that would have converted the city's famous downtown intersection into a pedestrian-friendly walkway. Earlier this spring a Winnipeg architecture firm won an international design competition meant to kick-start Portage and Main's makeover in time for the 2005 Juno Awards. The plan was one of former mayor Glen Murray's pet projects.
