In 1995, New York author and heritage activist Anthony Tung embarked on a dream assignment: visit 22 cities around the world (Toronto not included) to assess their success and failure at protecting architectural icons. His book, Preserving the World's Great Cities: The Destruction and Renewal of the Historic Metropolis, made the former member of the New York City Landmarks Preservation Commission an instant hit on the lecture circuit. This week, on his first visit to Toronto in two years, Mr. Tung was asked to assess this city's record at preserving its great buildings.
