Going for Green

Alberta’s registered architects and licensed interior designers will be “Going for Green,” in the celebration of Architecture Week, June 20 – 26, 2004. Most people do not realize the extent to which our built environment consumes resources. Even small changes in the way we design and build buildings can have a positive and significant impact on our energy consumption. Green design solutions help to protect the environment, conserve our resources and create better living environments. Sustainable architecture – or green architecture – is rapidly becoming an important criteria for building owners and operators.

The pursuit of sustainable design solutions will produce better buildings and communities and will help strengthen the economy and enhance our quality of life. Alberta’s registered architects and licensed interior designers are at the forefront of this pursuit, in producing top examples of sustainable design in Canada. Architecture Week, incorporating special supplements in the Calgary Herald and the Edmonton Journal, will highlight these accomplishments and raise awareness of both the issues and the opportunities of our sustainable future.

The public event, “Big Design for Small Cities Symposium,” also occurs during Architecture Week. The Symposium, organized by MADE in Edmonton, to be held on June 24 – 25, brings together six architects from across Canada with internationally recognized landscape architect and urban designer, Keith Orlesky, for panel discussions, lectures and a keynote address. Ian Chodikoff, editor of Canadian Architect magazine will act as moderator.

Additional presenters include:

John Brown, Calgary – The Tailored Home
