The 2004 winners of the Architectural Institute of British Columbia (AIBC) Awards were announced at the professional association's annual Presidents' Dinner and Architectural Awards Gala on Saturday, May 1. The annual awards program is designed to honour architectural achievement in projects designed and completed by AIBC members and to encourage public interest in BC architects and architecture. In addition to awards for building projects the AIBC also awarded a Special Achievement Award to Donald Luxton for his excellent book Building the West: The Early Architects of British Columbia. Another prominent award, the 2004 Barbara Dalrymple Memorial Award for Community Service (which is normally given to an AIBC member for exceptional, short-term community service or for lifetime achievement) was given to: Richard Evans MAIBC; Chair, Friends of Victory Square, Vancouver, for his part in this community project; and John Woodworth, a retired architect og Kelowna, BC for lifetime service.
