OAA Announces Winners of 2004 Awards

The Ontario Association of Architects recently announced its 2004 award winners who represent the best in Ontario architectural design, innovation, and business with buildings in Hamilton, Mississauga, North York, Toronto, and Virgil have been honoured.

The OAA Awards offers the Ontario architectural profession an annual opportunity to present its work to a public and professional audience; it advertises the excellence of both individual award winners and the profession as a whole; it fosters a greater appreciation of architecture and architects among all levels of society, professional and non-professional. One hundred and fifty-eight submissions were received and reviewed by two juries.

These award-winning projects illustrate the diversity, expertise and leadership within the profession today:

Institutional A: (less than $10 million)

Institutional B: (greater than $10 million)

  • Erindale Hall, University of Toronto at Mississauga, Mississauga, Award of Excellence, Baird Sampson Neuert Architects Inc.
  • Apotex Centre, Jewish Home for the Aged, Baycrest Centre, North York, Award of Excellence, Diamond and Schmitt Architects Incorporated, Boigon Petroff Shepherd Architects Inc., in joint venture

Commercial A: (less than $5 million)

  • Niagara Credit Union, Virgil, Ontario, Award of Excellence, Philip Beesley Architect Inc., and Baker and Elmes Architects
  • Dufflet Pastries - Quince Flowers, Toronto, Honourable Mention, Kohn Shnier Architects

Commercial B: (greater than $5 million)

Intern Projects:

  • Grossman Residence, Ottawa, Award of Excellence, Darryl J. Hood, Intern Architect
  • 83A Marlborough Avenue, Toronto, Award of Excellence, Drew Mandel, Intern Architect, with Amy Falkner, OAA and David Miller, OAA (Site Plan Approval)
