Is Gehry getting a 'bad rap'?

The Globe and Mail

The world-famous architect sounds off against critics who predict cost overruns and unnecessary destruction at the Art Gallery of Ontario. It was an aggressive-sounding Frank Gehry on the telephone the other day from his sprawling offices in Santa Monica, Calif., where a staff of 150 labour in his name. The Toronto-born superstar architect who's known as "Mr. Charm, Mr. Self-Effacing," in the words of James Russell, editor-at-large for Architectural Record magazine, was anything but as he sounded off against critics who predict his planned $195-million renovation-expansion of Toronto's Art Gallery of Ontario is going to cost a lot more, andin the process wreck something that doesn't have to be wrecked.
