Architect has fun with building

CanWest News Service

Just across from Ottawa's main bus terminal stands one of the most unusual apartment buildings in the city. The front, on Lyon Street, has been described by some as "Gehry-esque," though architect Frank Gehry's work, usually less angular, is at best a faint reference. This side of the building is covered mostly in galvanized steel, which picks up the changing colours of the sky. To this, the extruding entrance of red-painted marine mahogany offers a strong visual contrast. Just left of the entrance is another square that breaks up the space and, with its yellow brick surface, reflects the colour of the bus station across the street.
