The Art Gallery of Ontario won't be moving to the shores of Lake Ontario and, as far as AGO director and CEO Matthew Teitelbaum is concerned, that's a good thing. "We looked at other alternatives," Teitelbaum confirmed this week, "but we've been on this site for 104 years. This is our home." Founded in 1901, the gallery, Canada's largest, has occupied space on Dundas West between McCaul and Beverley Sts. ever since then. The facility has undergone three major expansions, the most recent of which was completed less than a decade ago. Construction of the next addition, designed by superstar architect Frank Gehry, is expected to begin next spring. The $194-million project will include a complete reworking of the gallery's front façade as well as a revamped interior and new space at the back of the building.
