If nothing else, the warehouse is a great argument for thinking inside the box. This humble structure, often little more than four walls and a roof, has never received the respect it deserves. But as the example of Toronto makes clear, the warehouse has made possible the rehabilitation of entire neighbourhoods, including the Entertainment District, Spadina Rd., Liberty Village, the Distillery District and Leslieville, to mention just a few in this city. Nineteenth and early 20th-century warehouses are sought as lofts, offices, apartments, schools, studios, restaurants, laboratories, pubs, bars, shops, galleries ... The list is endless.
