"Urban farming'' is an offbeat yet down-to-earth description that sums up the momentum in Toronto's Historic Distillery District. By now, you've heard of and possibly visited the former Gooderham & Worts lands, the site of the world's biggest distillery 150 years ago. The maze of 44 Victorian-era industrial buildings across 13 derelict acres is now one of the hot new areas in the city. To ensure this reignited vibrancy is not doused, plans for new condominiums will soon get underway on the site. This process is in reverse of greenfield or "new" developments, which begin with homes and then develop neighbourhood amenities.
