Finally, Frank does Toronto. It didn't matter that the first image of the new Art Gallery of Ontario, displayed high on the wall of the museum's Walker Court, was so hard to see and understand. The applause that greeted its appearance was instantaneous, fuelled entirely by local pride at the triumphant return of our almost-lost hometown hero, world-famous California architect Frank Gehry. Then the real looking began, abetted by an enlightening exhibition on the second floor of the about-to-be demolished main building, and a whiff of dread curled around the pride. Has Frank done Toronto, we wondered, or has Toronto done Frank?
