From a distance, the Pantages is quite something; tall, thin and elegant, it rises from the clutter of downtown Toronto putting its mostly leaden neighbours to shame. Occupying the northwest corner of Shuter and Victoria Sts., this ranks as one of the best towers to appear in the city in some time. Instead of the usual squares, boxes and rectangles, the Pantages is curved on two sides, making a convincing argument that there's still life in the skyscraper, still new ways of reinventing a form that has become tired in recent decades.
