When Frank Gehry unveils his plans for the AGO this week, a great debate will begin. To a certain extent, one can predict its themes. There will be discussion of the costs. There will be discussion of the extent to which the layout resolves the complex problem of integrating the Thomson gift into the fabric of the collection. There will be neighbourhood reaction to contend with. And there will be close scrutiny of the way the building showcases contemporary art (proudly thrust forward or tucked around back?).
