Concordia University wants to put a little green in its heart. Today, the university will unveil a bold design to carve a campus - complete with trees and gardens, lampposts and park benches - out of the concrete jungle of its downtown site. Re-inventing Place Norman Bethune, the tiny triangle of land just east of Guy St. dominated by the pigeon-splattered statue of China's favourite Canadian, is the focal point of the $18.6-million design put forward by Groupe Cardinal Hardy, the architectural firm selected by a jury of Concordia officials, urban planners and business and community leaders.
