"By the mid-1980s, the disparity between Frank Gehry's burgeoning international reputation and lack of recognition in his home town began to seem disproportionate," Martin Filler wrote a few months ago in the New York Review of Books. The home town he was referring to certainly could have been Toronto, where Gehry was born in 1929. Toronto still has no Gehry building, though that will no longer be true after 2008, when the Art Gallery of Ontario hopes to complete a Gehry transformation of its building. Gehry's plan for the AGO will be unveiled on Jan. 28.
