Extraordinary, whether you like it or not

Toronto Star

Toronto has seen nothing like it since the CN Tower went up in the mid-'70s. But, if anything, what's happening at the Ontario College of Art and Design on McCaul St. is even more spectacular. Indeed, the construction of the Sharp Pavilion has been a public event since last summer, when the "table top" structure started to take shape. Held aloft by 12 coloured steel columns — maybe stilts is a better word — the huge horizontal slab hovers 15 storeys above the complex of nondescript institutional buildings that comprise OCAD. The effect is startling, to say the least. Few buildings in Toronto have caused more controversy, not to mention rage and anger.
