High Park's open secret

The Globe and Mail

While Toronto is hardly above top-hat splash in public places -- for which see the new City Hall, Toronto-Dominion Centre and the impending makeover of the Royal Ontario Museum -- we tend to keep our wonderful houses out of sight. They are hidden deep in shady ravines, or tucked away on Rosedale cul-de-sacs and the laneways of Cabbagetown, or situated behind shabby apartment blocks in Parkdale. Or, like Colborne Lodge, they are installed in such plain view that everybody simply takes them for granted.
