An eye for architecture

The Globe and Mail

Although it was 70 years ago, Hugh Robertson remembers the first photograph he ever took. A simple shot of a stream running through his grandparent's farm that he dressed up with rocks to look "a little more exciting," it was the beginning of an incredible 60-year career as one of Canada's leading architectural photographers. It was a career that would also unwittingly document the nation's history for the better part of the 20th century. Of course, Mr. Robertson, now 86 and retired since 1992, would never admit to his work carrying that sort of weight; he's far too humble.
