The Heritage Canada Foundation is pleased to announce the election of Ms. Catherine C. Cole of Edmonton, Alberta, Mr. David B. Dueck of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Mr. Rollo Myers of Toronto, Ontario and Ms. Todd Saunders of Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, to its Board of Governors.
Educated at Trent University and the University of Alberta, Ms. Cole has worked for several heritage organizations throughout Canada, the United States and the Solomon Islands. For the past decade, she has served as the Principal Heritage Consultant with Catherine C. Cole and Associates. Some of her most recent projects include Alberta Inventors and Inventions, Heritage Community Foundation; Heritage Plan, City of Ottawa; Volunteerism in Canada's Heritage Sector, Department of Canadian Heritage; and Development Plan, Highland Village, Nova Scotia. As a board development instructor, she was also instrumental in writing such publications as Policy Development for Alberta's Board Development Program and the Guidelines for Museum Trustees for the Canadian Museums Association.
Mr. Dueck is a Corporate Facilities Manager with Marwest Management Canada Ltd, a company that specializes in the rehabilitation and management of heritage properties. His expertise in this particular field has resulted in the adaptive reuse of Winnipeg's historic Hamilton Building, recipient of the BOMA Historical Building of the Year for 2002 and the restoration of the Millennium Centre, the former Bank of Commerce on Main Street. Mr. Dueck also serves as a director of Heritage Winnipeg.
A former council appointee to the Toronto Historical Board and Bring Back the Don, founding member of Citizens for the Old Town, and founder of Friends of Fort York, Mr. Myers has worked tirelessly, during the last decade, in preserving and promoting Toronto's built heritage. For such dedication, he has received a Toronto Historical Board Award of Merit for restoration work, as well as the Jane Jacobs Prize in 1999. He is currently involved in protecting the remains of Upper Canada's first Parliament Buildings
Educated at the Technical University of Nova Scotia and the University of Calgary, Ms. Todd Saunders has served for the past six years as heritage officer for the City of Charlottetown, where she has been instrumental in the development and implementation of an incentive program for heritage conservation. She has also served as a board member on the Institute of Island Architectural Studies and Conservation, an advocacy group for the preservation of island architecture.
The Heritage Canada Foundation, better known as Heritage Canada, is a national, non-governmental charitable organization which promotes the preservation of Canada's heritage buildings and historic places. The Board of Governors consists of 12 individuals, representing the provinces and territories, elected by the foundation's members.
